Shankar's Dream…

Soon after the movie ‘Kadhalan' was completed in the year 1994, Shankar wanted to make a movie with either Kamal or Rajini who are considered as two big pillars in the Tamil movie industry.

Dream turned real…

Then the director made the movie ‘Indian' with Kamal. It became a big hit. Next it was time for ‘Jeans'. Having given two successful movies, Shankar wanted to try his dream project with Rajini. When he approached the Superstar, it was too late. Rajini had signed up for the movie ‘Padayappa' with K S Ravikumar. Shankar, then concentrated on making movies like ‘Mudhalvan', ‘Boys' and ‘Anniyan'. Only after all this, time was ripe for a movie with the superstar. And hence was born ‘Sivaji'.

‘Sivaji' was born

In October 2005, Shankar was called upon by AVM productions to do a movie under their banner. Shankar accepted the offer and as it is a big budget movie, his first thought in his mind was to cast Rajini in it.  

Rajini became Sivaji again!

The movie was earlier named as ‘Super Star' but Rajini did not want that to be the name and hence it was changed to Sivaji. It can be remembered that Sivaji Rao Gaekwad is the real name of Rajinikanth before he came to the silver screen. The Boss was later added as the tagline for the movie. The other cast of the movie was later decided in consultation with Rajini. The shooting of the movie commenced in 2005 November.

Who can she be?

The heroines in the industry like Asin, Aishwarya Rai, and Vidya Balan were approached for the role of heroines but later on Shriya of ‘Mazhai' fame was roped in as heroine.

Sivaji- Cast recast

Raghuvaran's role was earlier offered to Mohanlal. Later it was decided that Amitabh Bachchan and Mammootty should play the important roles in the movie. In the early stages Vadivelu was to play the comedian role but soon the offer went to Vivek. The baddie role of the movie was offered to Sathyaraj, Nana Patekar and Sanjay Dutt. As all were busy with other projects the role went to Suman of Bollywood industry.
